Cameron Ivory has claimed his third Australian jersey this season with victory at the 2018 MTBA National Marathon Championships at Douglas Mountain Bike Reserve in Townsville, Queensland on Sunday.

The NSWIS athlete, who already has the green and gold cross-country and cross-country eliminator title in his keeping broke the three year dominance of Brendan Johnston (ACT) who finished with the silver and Tasman Nankervis (VIC) with bronze.

“At the start of the year I didn’t expect this to get any national title, but it’s turned into dream season,” Cam Ivory said.

The Trek rider put in a fifth and final lap of 49.44, and it was during the final seven kilometres of the race where he broke away from the three-time defending champion.

“He (Brendan Johnston) really had me under the pump.

“Going into the climb I was doing all I could to hold him and then I went all out on Little Fire Road Climb with under half a lap to go and opened up a small gap.”
