Matildas cruise past New Zealand

The Australian Matildas are rounding into form ahead of the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany next month after a solid 3-0 victory over New Zealand yesterday.

The match was highlighted by NSWIS athlete and Australian debutant Caitlin Foord, who crafted an outstanding individual goal after 10 minutes to give Australia the lead.

Australia’s second goal didn’t come until the 79th minute when NSWIS athlete and W-League star Kyah Simon finished from long range before fellow NSWIS athlete Leena Khamis capped off the NSWIS trifecta with a goal in the 85th minute.

The Matildas play New Zealand again on Sunday before finalising preparations for Germany.
