National champions of canoe slalom have been crowned at Penrith Whitewater Stadium in the men’s and women’s K1 and C1 finals.

Jess Fox completed a golden return to the course in the women’s K1 final, finishing first but just over four seconds.

While Fox didn’t compete in the women’s C1 events, she enjoyed connecting with younger paddlers and helping out with judging the finals.

“The Nationals are always a good hit out and a good race domestically,” Fox said.

“For us, it’s our last event before we go overseas for our World Cup races so it’s always important to race it, connect with the community and to see the younger athletes. Being able to engage with them is very special.”

10 years after his first National title, Tim Anderson was back on top of the podium in the men’s K1 final.

Anderson’s blistering run saw him finish over 4.5 seconds ahead of his competitors.

“It really means a lot. I’ve been unsuccessful at the National Championships for a lot of years and really haven’t hit my peak form. It’s really awesome to race my best here today,” he said.

Noemie Fox adds more medals to a brilliant domestic season. With a silver medal in the morning’s women’s K1 final, Fox put on a dominant display to win the women’s C1 final by over eight seconds.

“It’s a great opportunity to get back on the start line and just trying to feel good and keep the body as fit as I can. I can take confidence before heading overseas for the first World Cups,” she said.

Tristan Carter backed up his heats run yesterday with a top-tier run to clinch the men’s C1 National title. In a men’s final where only two seconds split the top four placings, Carter’s experience was enough to get the job done.

Young gun Dominic Curtin had a terrific day on the water, claiming two medals from both the men’s K1 (bronze)  and C1 finals (silver). Codie Davidson also secured two bronze medals in the both women’s finals at Penrith Whitewater Stadium.

With one day to go, Sunday’s racing is all about the Kayak Cross events. Starting with the individual time trials in the morning, followed by the heats and finals racing where two National Champions will be decided.
