NSW Institute of Sport athletes Tyler Gunn and Steve Solomon have played a key role in earning Australia a 2019 Doha World Athletics Championships spot in the 4x400m relay.
Competing at the IAAF World Relay Championships in Yokohama, Japan, the Australian team finished seventh in the final, taking them one step closer to qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
In the heat, Gunn (45.5) and Solomon (45.93) ran the two fastest legs to help achieve the team’s fastest time in six years (3:03.53) before clocking 3.05.59 in the final.
The 2019 World Championships will take place in September where the top eight 4x400m teams will automatically qualify for the Tokyo Olympics, with the remaining eight spots to be decided based on rankings.
