NSWIS Diving Coach Joel Rodriguez will be heading to Taipei, Taiwan this week to prepare the Australian Diving team for the World University Games. The Australian team includes NSWIS athlete and Rio Olympian Brittany O’Brien, and also NSW diver Nick Jeffree.

They will join over 10,000 other competitors from across the world in the multi-sports event. The World University Games incorporate educational and cultural aspects into 12 days of sports competitions, allowing university student-athletes from all over the world to celebrate with the host city in a true spirit of friendship and sportsmanship.

The Australian Diving team will be using the competition to prepare for the 2018 Commonwealth Games taking place in Gold Coast in April next year.

Rodriguez has experience working with the Australian diving team at a series of international FINA World Series and Grand Prix events over the past year, and is looking forward to the competition:

“It is exciting to be involved in such a big multi-sports event. The whole team will learn a lot from the experience which will serve them well in future competitions such as the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and the Tokyo Olympics.

From a personal point of view it is an honour to be asked to coach the Australian team, and I’m looking forward to working with the team to get the best results.”
