Two NSWIS cyclists finished in the top five of a record breaking Grafton to Inverell Cycle Classic.

The NSWIS Road Cycling team were in confident mood going into the race, and this was shown to be justified as Ayden Toovey finished third and teammate Josh Taylor came in fifth.

The race over the punishing 228km route was completed in record time by eventual winner Neil Van Der Ploeg in 5 hours 46 minutes 26 seconds.

Van Der Ploeg beat the race record by 12 minutes and was victorious thanks to a sprint finish having caught Toovey with just 20 metres to go.

NSWIS Road Cycling team Director Ben Kersten was very proud of his team’s efforts, which saw Toovey and Taylor both finish in times which broke the record of previous years.

“The whole team rode exceptionally together, for every part of the 228km. Strong performances like this show that our hard work is paying off.”

The team are now focused on competing in the USA over the winter.
