NSWIS cyclists were pivotal in a successful World Championships campaign for Australia in Hong Kong last week – as the team finished on top of the medal table.

NSWIS athletes helped contribute to one gold and three silver medals during the championships.

The standout NSWIS performance came from newcomer to the all-conquering men’s team pursuit team Nick Yallouris, who drove Australia to a sixth world title in eight years.

Nick told Cycling Australia, “Words can’t describe what I’m feeling right now. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous, but the past six months I’ve put in a lot of work and had to back myself and the team’s ability and trust the process, and we did it.”

Other NSWIS appearances on the podium came from Kaarle McCulloch who claimed silver in the team sprint, and Ash Ankudinoff who won two silver medals in the team and individual pursuit.

These performances have set up Ash and the rest of the team up well on the road to the Commonwealth Games in just over a year.
