Seven NSWIS water polo players have been selected to represent Australia at the third FINA World Women’s Youth Water Polo Championships in Auckland, New Zealand from December 12-18 this year.

 

Named in the team were Danielle Morrissey, Meghan Ridge, Matilda Kearns, Kiara Holden, Emma Jones, Savannah Henshaw and Hayley Collins for the competition that will take place at the Sir Owen G. Glenn National Aquatic Centre in Auckland.

 

There will be 16 teams present at the competition with Brazil, Canada, China, Spain, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, South Africa, Russia, USA and hosts New Zealand joining Australia.

 

Of the three editions of this event, the first of which was held in Perth, Western Australia the Aussies are yet to stand on the podium. They will hope to overcome their 15 opponents including defending champions the USA and inaugural victors Greece.

 

Only Hungary has stood on the podium in both previous editions, with silver in 2012 and bronze in 2014.

 

NSWIS women’s water polo head coach Predrag Mihailovic will coach the team.
