The NSW Institute of Sport’s Water Polo Women’s squad is in Thailand for a joint training camp with the Thai national team.

The camp, held in Bangkok from 8th-17th June, is being conducted with the Thai Swimming Association and includes several matches against the national water polo side.

Brooke McClean says the Thai national team have proven a challenging opponent in the pool for the NSWIS squad.

“It’s been good playing against a really fast, dynamic team,” she said.

“They play a really different style of water polo and it was a challenge for us.

“They gave us a really good fight, and it was great to get the experience of playing against such a different team.”

Between sessions in the gym and the pool, the squad have had plenty of opportunities to explore the Thai capital.

Bridget Johnson and Abbey Simhauser were among those who took in Bangkok’s majestic Grand Palace during a break from training.

“It’s very hot,” said Johnson outside the Palace.

“And we have to wear long pants or sarongs [in the Grand Palace] so it’s even hotter!”

The squad will wrap up their joint training camp on Saturday 16th June, before flying out and arriving back in Sydney on Sunday morning.
