NSWIS swimmers have made a strong start to the 2011 Australian Short Course Championships in Adelaide, with four medals being won on night one of competition.

It was an NSWIS one-two in the women’s 1500m as Erin Killey took honours from world championship representative Jessica Ashwood. Killey stopped the clock in 15:59.05 while Ashwood touched in at 16:11.44.

The men’s 800m was a similar affair with Robert Hurley outlasting fellow NSWIS athlete Jarrod Poort. Hurley finished in a time of 7:54.13, just over five seconds ahead of Poort in 7:59.57.

Several NSWIS athletes will be in action again today at the championships, including sprinters James Magnussen, Matt Abood and Eamon Sullivan in the men’s 100m.
