NSWIS hockey players Georgina Morgan, Grace Stewart and Mariah Williams will be out to claim victory for the NSW Arrows at the impending Australian Hockey League (AHL) tournament from September 29 to October 9 in Perth.

After battling with the world’s best on the hockey pitch in Deodoro, Rio de Janeiro at the Olympic Games last month, the trio will now join nine other NSWIS players and a further two players on NSWIS talent agreements as members of the Arrows.

The team will be coached by NSWIS head coach Katrina Powell, who will ready her charges for a competition that will see the Arrows take on teams from each of Australia’s states and territories as well as a teams from Malaysia and New Zealand.

Both Morgan and Williams have spent the past few years cementing their position in the Australian team, the Hockeyroos, and despite a troubled campaign in Rio have tasted success with the team, winning the 2015 Oceania cup. With their international duties on hold for now, they will focus on taking the AHL title away from 2015 victors Queensland.

Meanwhile 19-year-old Stewart has had a meteoritic rise through the Australian hockey ranks. Hailing from the NSW South Coast, she made her debut for the Hockeyroos at the International Tri-Series in Singapore, scoring a goal on debut.

Impressive performances ensued, but non more than at this year’s Champions Trophy in London and International Hockey Tournament in Darwin, which sealed her Olympic selection.

Amazingly Stewart only made her AHL debut for NSW at last year’s tournament.

Joining the trio in the Arrows side is Murphy Allendorf, Jocelyn Bartram, Mathilda Carmichael, Kate Hanna, Greta Hayes, Rene Hunter, Kaitlin Nobbs, Mikaela Patterson and Abigail Wilson.

Tamsin Bunt and Kyah Gray are on NSWIS training agreements and also join the team.

NSW will begin their campaign on the opening day of competition when they play South Australia. They will then have pool games against Victoria and Malaysia before a rest day.

Their final two preliminaries before the playoffs will be against the Northern Territory, and hosts Western Australia.
