Shooting athletes from the NSW Institute of Sport have had a successful 2020 ACTA ISSF Championships, claiming gold in their respective events.

The Commonwealth & national championships, which took place in Newcastle this week, are one of the Tokyo selection events for Trap and Skeet athletes.

Thomas Grice (NSWIS) won the Mixed Pairs ISSF Trap Finals with his shooting partner Penny Smith.

Men’s trap shooting world champion, James Willett (NSWIS/VIS), was forced to dig deep and overcome a slow start to capture the Commonwealth Championship gold medal. Later in the week Willett took gold in the national Men’s Trap event, with Grice taking bronze.

Willett faced stern competition but eventually claimed 46 of 50 targets in winning the gold medal ahead of Victoria’s Vinnie Mollica (43 targets).
