Australia’s Paralympians are set to be officially welcomed home at a celebration to be held in Martin Place next Tuesday, October 4, giving Sydneysiders and those who travel to the city a chance to congratulate their outstanding results.

There will be more than 40 athletes and medallists in attendance ready to greet fans, and talk about their experiences in Rio. It will also be a chance for the athletes to thank their fans for the support given to them throughout their Paralympic campaign.

In total the Australian Paralympic team netted 81 medals, with 28 of those coming from NSWIS athletes. Of those 28 there were nine gold, ten silver and nine bronze medals. Add to that medals won in team events and the number grows to 13 gold, 13 silver and ten bronze medals pocketed by NSWIS athletes – in addition to the dozens of finalists, personal and season best performances.

While the main drawcard of the event will be the Aussie athletes, those that make the trip to Martin Place will also be treated to a performance from Tony Doevandans. Known as Tony Dee, he is the face of ‘We’re the Superhumans’ campaign in London for the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games. Watch it below!

Supporting Tony Dee will be a 14-piece jazz band conducted by George Ellis.

With large crowds expected, those wishing to attend are advised to take public transport.

There will be a reserved accessible and inclusive viewing area for people with a disability and mobility support requirements will be provided also. There will also be an AUSLAN interpreter for official proceedings from 12.30pm-1.00pm.

Any guests requiring such considerations are encouraged to register. Please contact Paul Nunnari, Manager, Event Access and Inclusion, Department of Premier and Cabinet on (02) 9228 5667, 0477 318 481 or email paul.nunnari@dpc.nsw.gov.au to register.
