Samuels makes it silver in Morocco

Dani Samuels highlighted NSWIS track & field results over the weekend after winning silver in the women’s discus at the 2014 IAAF Intercontinental Cup in Morocco.

The Commonwealth champion’s best throw of 64.39m was just 0.16m from American gold medal winner Gia Lewis-Smallwood, with all four of Samuels’ throws flying over the 62m mark. Diamond League winner Sandra Perkovic finished with bronze.

Also competing at the Intercontinental Cup were Samuels’ fellow NSWIS athletes Anneliese Rubie and Eloise Wellings. Rubie finished seventh overall in the women’s 400m, and fourth as part of the Asia Pacific’s 4x400m relay time, while Wellings finished fourth in the women’s 1500m.

Asia Pacific finished fourth with 257.5 points overall.
