The NSWIS duo of Alex Croak and Melissa Wu combined on day three of competition at the 2011 FINA Aquatic World Championships to win silver in the women’s 10m synchronised platform.

Croak and Wu finished second after qualifying behind China, and it stayed that way in the final as the NSWIS pair tallied 325.92 points from their five dives. The duo was in seventh place after two dives before finishing strongly taking silver.

Five more NSWIS athletes were in action on day three as the Australian men’s water polo team, the Sharks, accounted for bogey-team Romania, 9-8.

The Sharks were behind for almost the entire match after being unable to convert several extra man scoring opportunities. However, a four goal flurry in the final quarter saw the Sharks win by one. NSWIS athletes Richie Campbell and Aidan Roach each scored two goals.

The NSWIS athletes in the Sharks team are: Campbell, Roach, Joel Dennerley, Mitch Baird and Gavin Woods.

Day four of the championships will see four NSWIS athletes line up as part of the Australian women’s water polo team, the Stingers, as they take on Trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand.
