Sochi sparkles as Games close

The 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games officially closed overnight with a sparkling closing ceremony to wrap competition.

The Australian team finished 24th on the medal tally with two silver and one bronze medal, including a silver to Torah Bright in the women’s snowboard half-pipe.

Australia’s medals were complemented by a number of top-10 finishes to NSWIS athletes at the Games, including Britt Cox, Katya Crema, Russ Henshaw, Belle Brockhoff and Kent Callister, with all likely to aim for representation at the 2018 Games in Pyeongchang, Korea

The focus now turns towards the Paralympic Games which begin on March 7th in Sochi, where five NSWIS athletes are scheduled to take part.
