NSWIS track & field athlete Jake Stein has become the Institute’s latest world champion after a record breaking performance at the 2011 IAAF World Youth Championships in France.

Stein powered to victory in the men’s octathlon, posting six personal best scores in the eight discipline event, before eventually posting a new world record score of 6491, over 300 points clear of his nearest rival.

After day one Stein was clearly in control, posting personal bests in the men’s long jump, shot put and 400m before posting personal bests in the men’s 110m hurdles, javelin and 1000m. Stein joins Dani Samuels and Jana Pittman as NSWIS world youth champions.

Other results from the championships on day two included Jarrod Geddes finishing sixth in the men’s 100m.
