The flames of the Olympic torch at Sydney Olympic Park were ignited today to mark 17 years since the start of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

NSWIS swimmer Kurt Herzog was on hand to help mark the occasion, watching the huge flames light up Cathy Freeman Park once again.

NSWIS interviewed Herzog last year, with the speedster hoping to compete at the Commonwealth Games next year in the Gold Coast.

Sydney Olympic Park, built specifically for the 2000 Games, are also celebrating their 17 years of operation and are a valued strategic partner of the NSW Institute of Sport.
