It is with great sadness that the NSWIS farewells one of our greatest cyclists, Olympian Stephen Wooldridge OAM.

Born in 1977, Stephen won gold at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games in the men’s 4000m team pursuit. The four-time world champion had an outstanding career in the velodrome, including gold medals at the 2002, 2004 and 2006 world championships and bronze in 2005.

Stephen also produced a number of podium performances at the Commonwealth Games including gold at the 2002 Manchester Games and silver at the 2006 Melbourne Games.

The NSW Institute of Sport and all of Team NSWIS extend our deepest sympathies to Stephen’s family and friends. He will be greatly missed by many of his close friends at the NSWIS, particularly those within our cycling program.
