Water polo athletes earn selection

Five NSWIS athletes have earned selection on the Australian water polo teams headed for the 2013 Universiade in Russia.

Chris Dyson, Matthew Hannan and Paul Sindone were selected on the Australian men’s team, with NSWIS athletes Maddison Schmid and Pascalle Casey earning selection on the Australian women’s team.

The Universiade takes place in Kazan, Russia from July 6-17.

Elsewhere, the Australian women’s water polo team, the Stingers, has had a mixed start to the 2013 FINA World League Finals in Beijing, China.

After defeating Canada 12-8 on the opening day of competition, the team, featuring six NSWIS athletes, suffered a narrow 9-10 defeat to Olympic silver medallists Spain on day two.

The Stingers next play Italy before the quarterfinals begin on Tuesday.
