Weighty expectations exceeded

NSWIS weightlifter Malek Chamoun won a silver medal at the 2011 Australian Weightlifting Championships in Sydney over the weekend to qualify for this year’s world championships.

Chamoun won silver in the men’s 85kg class with a new personal best clean & jerk lift of 179kg to take silver overall behind Victorian Simplice Ribouem.

Fellow NSWIS athlete Musa Kamara claimed silver in the men’s 69kg class.

The 2011 World Weightlifting Championships take place in Paris, France from 5-13 November 2011.
