Parker celebrates gold and a rainbow

The ARA Australian Cycling Team has wrapped up another successful campaign at the UCI Para Cycling Road World Championships in Huntsville, Alabama, bringing home two rainbow jerseys and eight medals.

Racing in scorching conditions, the Australian team battled the heat to deliver a string of impressive performances across the time trial, road race and handcycle mixed team relay.

Both New South Wales Institute of Sport’s (NSWSIS’s) Lauren Parker (H3) and Tahlia Clayton-Goodie (C1) successfully defended their time trial world titles, securing the rainbow jersey for another 12 months.

Clayton-Goodie backed up her time trial gold with silver in the road race.

Parker also claimed bronze, bringing her total medal haul to three after also taking bronze in the handcycle mixed team relay alongside Grant Allen and Alex Welsh.

In the battle for the C3 time trial title, Emily Petricola finished just four seconds off the top spot to take bronze.

Defending world champions Alana Forster (C5) and Tara Neyland (C4) both added silver medals to the team’s tally in their respective time trials.

Neyland followed up with another silver in the road race, narrowly missing out on gold in a thrilling photo finish.

Forster also added a second road race medal, sprinting to bronze in another tight finish.
