NSWIS skier Britt Cox has stolen the limelight at the Australian Mogul Championships in Perisher to win the women’s competition.

It was an against the odds victory for Cox who saw off competitors from around the world to claim victory, including dominant North American opponents.

The result has firmly placed the world number 18 ranked skier as one to watch in the lead up to the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

Fifth at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, Cox carved out victory yesterday with a mix of technical ability and speed as she executed two difficult jumps, racing down steep and uneven terrain.

Her win on the first of the two-day event in Perisher came on a course that is considered as one of the toughest in the world, with Cox delightedly telling AAP that there was more to come.

“This is a fantastic event and a great field of athletes, so that is very motivating” Cox enthused.

“I’m looking forward to tomorrow and skiing harder and jumping bigger.”

Fellow NSWIS athlete Rohan Chapman-Davies also sprung a surprise to finish third in the men’s competition. The world number 44 finished two places ahead of NSWIS skier and men’s world number two Matt Graham, who salvaged fifth after an earlier mishap.
