A newly established Athlete Advisory Group will help guide the decision-making of the NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS) as the elite sports organisation prepares for Tokyo 2020 and beyond.

The NSWIS Athlete Advisory Group will serve as a link between athletes and NSWIS, with members providing recommendations and feedback to the NSWIS management and board.

Eight athletes have been named as the inaugural members of the Athlete Advisory Group, representing the diversity of Scholarship Holders at the NSW Institute of Sport:

  • Jo Brigden-Jones (Canoe Sprint)
  • Rohan Browning (Athletics)
  • Noemie Fox (Canoe Slalom)
  • Jonathan Goerlach (Triathlon)
  • Erik Horrie (Rowing)
  • Sami Kennedy-Sim (Winter Sports)
  • Kaarle McCulloch (Cycling)
  • Aidan Roach (Water Polo)

The inaugural members bring a mix of experience and energy with an even representation of gender and some passionate advocates from both para and able-bodied sports. Delegates for sports not directly represented on the Athlete Advisory Group will be appointed to ensure representation across all sports.

The initiative provides a voice for all athletes at the NSW Institute of Sport, and a pathway to impact future decision-making.

Olympic gold medalist and current NSWIS Board Member Sarah Ryan is set to facilitate the Group who will meet three times per year.

“This is an incredible opportunity for our current athletes and future athletes and I’m absolutely delighted to be involved in the beginning of the NSWIS Athlete Advisory Group” said Ryan.

“The athletes are at the coal face, they’re the ones that are doing all the hard work. They’re training, using the facilities – they need to be heard.

“This is a great opportunity for us to listen to them, to work with them and to make a better future for everyone at NSWIS”.
