NSWIS triathlete Brad Kahlefeldt has hit form at the right time with a win at the Hamburg leg of the 2011 Triathlon World Championship Series.

After finishing fifth at the recent Austrian leg of the championships, Kahlefeldt gained even more momentum in the world championship series by sprinting away from Great Britain’s William Clarke and France’s David Hauss in the final 20 metres of the race to win gold.

Kahlefeldt was one of six athletes in a breakaway group during the 10km run, and with three kilometres to go arch rival Javier Gomez tried to break the group again. Kahlefeldt was up to the challenge and kept the pressure on to eventually triumph in a time of 1:44:08.

The win in Hamburg is Kahlefeldt’s first world championship series gold medal, and comes at the right time ahead of the London triathlon on August 6th as it doubles as an Olympic qualifier.
