NSWIS Scholarship Holder Madison de Rozario continues to go from strength to strength and has added a brilliant victory in the London Marathon to a growing list of accolades.

The win in the Elite Wheelchair event against the top women in the world comes just one week after the athlete won gold in the T54 Marathon at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

The 24-year-old Australian won in a sprint finish against four-time winner Tatyana McFadden (USA) with a time of 1:42:58.

Only twice before in the history of the event has a faster time been recorded, and it was also the hottest London Marathon ever with a top of 24.1 degrees Celsius.

“I feel very surprised still, it’s unreal, that was amazing,” said De Rozario

“Just physically doing the 42km felt a lot easier after last weekend and knowing that my body is happy to do it.

“Then you throw in the competitive part on top of it and I had a bit more confidence going in, knowing that I could stay and that I could maybe sprint finish.”

Fellow NSWIS teammate Kurt Fearnley came fifth in the men’s event.
