Three-time world champion Kaarle McCulloch claimed her first team sprint national crown in seven years at the Cycling Australia National Championships in Melbourne on Saturday evening.

McCulloch combined with fellow NSW Institute of Sport athletes Sophie Know and Selina Ho to secure the win for New South Wales.

In the afternoon qualifying, McCulloch posted the fastest time with Knox, and then with Ho replacing Knox in for the final the pair defeated the Victorian duo of Caitlin Ward and Madison Janssen.

“To be able to do this tonight with two different teammates is really promising for sprint cycling in New South Wales,” said McCulloch.

“I’m really proud of Selina Ho and Sophie Knox. I’m also really proud of myself as I’ve had a couple of hard races today.

“Nothing beats having the green and gold jersey of an Australian champion, I’ve been wanting this one for quite some time.

“This is the event I have been explicitly training for with Tokyo in sight, so to have that on our backs and see it go to some new young girls also is fantastic.”

McCulloch won silver on the same track at the 2012 World Championships with Anna Meares.
