Today, the New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS) launches its 30th anniversary celebrations, marking three decades of dedication, achievement and shared success.

Since 1996, NSWIS athletes and staff have pursued excellence through hard work, cutting-edge sport science and medicine, and innovative, world-class coaching across the Institute’s Daily Performance Environments while maintaining an all-encompassing commitment to athlete wellbeing.

This collaboration has produced outstanding results, including:

  • 146 Summer Olympic medallists.
  • 88 Summer Paralympic medallists.
  • Seven Winter Olympic medallists.
  • Seven Winter Paralympic medallists.
  • 304 world champions.

Every medal and title reflects hope and ambition. For many NSWIS athletes, earning the title of Olympian (OLY), Paralympian (PLY), world title contender or Australian representative is also a lifelong source of pride—one that can channel their energy into remarkable achievements beyond sport. Each performance inspires individuals in different ways: motivating some people to pursue their own potential and sparking in others a lasting passion for sport.

Over the past 30 years, NSWIS alumni who have become household names include:

As Australia prepares to host the home 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, NSWIS is well positioned to draw on the Institute’s 30 years of innovation, experience, commitment and hard-earned wisdom to help shape the next chapter of sporting success. It’s a privilege NSWIS has carried proudly since 1996 . . .
