NSWIS paddler Lachlan Tame has highlighted the results at the 2015 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships by winning gold alongside compatriot Ken Wallace.

Competing in the men’s K2 500m the duo got away to a solid start before powering away over the final 250m to finish 0.788 seconds ahead of silver medallists Spain.

“It went to plan, we hoped to do well and we executed what we could do to our best, we got a second yesterday and a first today so we are stoked,” Tame said to Australian Canoeing after the race.

The duo also picked up silver in the men’s K2 1000m, taking their second consecutive silver medal after notching the same result at the 2013 world championships. Tame and Wallace finished 0.957 seconds from gold medallists Germany.

Fellow NSWIS athletes David Smith and Riley Fitzsimmons fell just short of bronze in the men’s K4 1000m final, finishing fourth by just 0.054 seconds, while Murray Stewart claimed sixth place in the men’s K1 1000m final.

Jo Brigden-Jones and Naomi Flood took second in final B of the women’s K4 500m, while Colin Sieders finished ninth in the men’s KL1 final.

The Australian team finished third overall on the medal table with five gold, two silver and one bronze.
