29 NSWIS athletes heading to the Winter Olympics

29 NSWIS athletes have been selected to represent Australia at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang.

The 29 NSWIS athletes make up 64% of the entire Australian team that has currently been announced. The NSWIS contingent features 12 athletes who will be making their Olympic debut.

The 29 NSWIS athletes on the 2018 team so far is already the joint highest NSWIS have ever contributed to a Winter Olympics, and would be the highest proportion of NSWIS athletes ever in an Australian Olympic team.

The NSWIS athletes at the games will be headlined by world champion moguls skier Britt Cox who will be looking to turn her stellar World Cup form into Olympic gold. In the men’s event Matt Graham leads the NSWIS medal charge – with the world number three looking for success at his second Olympic Games.

NSWIS also boasts some of the world’s best snowboard cross talent – with Alex ‘Chumpy’ Pullin, Adam Lambert and Jarryd Hughes in the men’s event and Belle Brockhoff in the women’s. In the women’s ski cross Sami Kennedy-Sim will be heading to her second games with sights set on a medal.

17-year-old Tess Coady has enjoyed a stunning rise in the women’s snowboard slopestyle and big air competitions, and will be looking to make the most of her first Olympic experience.

Of the athletes selected 21 come from the NSWIS Winter Sports Program, while a further eight are being supported as part of the NSWIS Campaign PyeongChang.

As well as supporting these athletes the Campaign PyeongChang project also directed crucial funds and resources across the whole NSWIS Winter Sports Program to ensure athletes have the best possible preparation for the games.

The 2018 Winter Olympics begins on Friday 9^th February and runs through to Sunday 25^th February.
