NSWIS snowboarder Emily Arthur tasted Olympic success for the first time after winning silver in the women’s half-pipe at the 2016 Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway.

Arthur, the Australian flag bearer at the opening ceremony, posted her best score of 90.0 points in the second of three runs to claim silver, finishing behind American phenom Chloe Kim.

"I’m so excited," said Arthur to the Australian Olympic Committee after her run.

"When I landed my second run I was over the moon and couldn’t keep back my smile. I’m so, so happy."

Fellow NSWIS athlete Mahalah Mullins finished 15th in the half-pipe, with both riders taking on the snowboard slopestyle later this week.

In other winter sports news, the FIS Snowboard World Cup continued in Japan where NSWIS athlete Holly Crawford finished eighth.

Elsewhere, ski cross athlete Sami Kennedy-Sim placed 24th and 19th after two Freestyle Skiing World Cup events in Sweden, while Anton Grimus placed 30th in the men’s ski cross at the same World Cup.
