Six NSWIS athletes have secured their spots on the Australian teams heading to the IAAF Athletics World Championships and World Para-Athletics Championships following the Australian Athletics Championships over the weekend.

The selections are highlighted by discus thrower Dani Stevens, who once again claimed the national title in her event with a throw of 65.07m to secure her spot on the team.

Stevens will be joined by fellow NSWIS athletes Ella Nelson in the women’s 200m and 10,000m runner Eloise Wellings, with all three athletes backing up from their respective Rio 2016 campaigns.

The Australian team heading to the World Para-Athletics Championships will initially include three NSWIS athletes.

Rio 2016 champion James Turner headlines the first round of selections and will compete in his pet event, the men’s T36 800m, and is joined by Rio 2016 medallists Madison de Rozario and Angela Ballard.

Selections for both teams will continue in the coming months before the World Para-Athletics Championships from 14-23 July and the IAAF World Championships from 4-13 August.
