Several NSWIS athletes have performed strongly at the Glasgow Diamond League event, a dress rehearsal for the track & field events at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Highlighting the results from the two day meet was Dani Samuels, who took bronze in the women’s discus. The result follows a silver medal last week in Paris, with Samuels’ best mark in Glasgow being a 65.21m throw in the final round of competition.

Complementing the medal winning performance from Samuels was a season-best performance from Ben St Lawrence and personal best from Madeline Heiner.

St Lawrence’s effort came in the men’s 5000m when he posted a time of 13:25.68 to finish 10th, while Heiner finished in the same spot of the women’s 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:36.31. Heiner’s performance, on Diamond League debut, smashed her previous best by nearly 12 seconds.

Fellow NSWIS athletes and Commonwealth Games team members Jin Su Jung, Jake Hammond, Jarrod Geddes and Tim Leathart were also in action in Glasgow, with the NSWIS quartet combining to finish fourth in the men’s 4x100m relay in a time of 39.35.
