Twelve NSWIS athletes have been selected on the Australian team set to compete at the 2013 IAAF Athletics World Championships in Russia.

Highlighting selections is runner Steven Solomon, who rose to prominence last year with an eighth place finish in the men’s 400m at the 2012 London Olympic Games. Solomon will compete at the world championships as part of the Australian men’s 4x400m relay team alongside fellow NSWIS athlete Joshua Ralph.

Joining Solomon on the track are NSWIS sprinters Tim Leathart, Isaac Ntiamoah, Jarrod Geddes and Nicholas Hough, while Ian Rayson will compete in the men’s 50km walk.

High jumper Brandon Starc will make his world championship debut, while long distance runner Ben St Lawrence and long jumper Fabrice Lapierre also look set for action.

The women’s events are headlined by NSWIS athlete and 2009 discus world champion Dani Samuels, with Lara Tamsett selected to compete in the women’s 10000m.

The championships take place in Moscow, Russia from 10-18 August.
