The Australian team – with nine NSWIS athletes as part of the 13 player squad – have finished ninth at the women’s Water Polo Youth World Championships in Auckland.

After narrowly losing group games to Italy and the Netherlands, the Australians entered into the 9-12 place draw and proceeded to thump Germany 21-1 in the semi final to set up a Trans-Tasman showdown with the tournament hosts in the ninth versus tenth playoff.

Against the Kiwis, Australia started strongly to lead 4-1 at quarter time and 5-2 at the main break. By three quarter time it was 9-4 and the game was all but sealed for the Green and Gold.

Australia won the final period 2-1 to end the game comprehensive 11-5 victors and finish the tournament in ninth.

NSWIS athletes Brooke Dickie (3), Alice Williams (3), Kiara Holden (2), Emma Jones (1) and Meghan Ridge (1) all scored in the win.
