The Australian senior and under-23 rowing teams have been announced, with a number of NSWIS athletes making the cut.

The selections for the senior team are highlighted by Olympic medallists James Chapman and Christopher Morgan, who will compete in the men’s eight and men’s quad scull respectively. Both athletes will compete at the third World Cup event in Switzerland, as well as the 2014 World Rowing Championships.

The Olympic medal winning duo is joined at both events by Nicholas Purnell, who competes in the men’s single scull, while Sarah Pound joins the women’s lightweight quad scull crew at the world championships.

NSWIS Rowing Program Head Coach Tim McLaren has also been included on the team as a coach for the men’s single and quad scull events.

Included in the senior team to compete in the men’s arms and shoulders single scull is reigning world champion Erik Horrie, who also won silver in the same discipline at the 2012 London Paralympic Games. Joining Horrie will be his NSWIS coach Jason Baker.

The 2014 World Rowing Championships take place in Amsterdam, the Netherlands from 24-31 August 2014.

Complementing the senior team selections, five NSWIS athletes have been selected to the Australian under-23 team to compete at the 2014 World Rowing Under-23 Championships.

The duo of Jessie Allen and Genevieve Horton, gold medallists at the Youth Olympic Games and junior world championships, will contest the women’s coxless pair following a fourth place finish at the same event in 2013.

Also selected on the under-23 team are NSWIS athletes Georgina Miansarow (women’s lightweight double scull), Georgina Gotch (women’s coxless four) and Jack Hargreaves (men’s coxless pair).

The World Rowing Under-23 Championships take place in Varese, Italy from 23-27 July 2014.
