NSW Minister for Sport Steve Kamper has today confirmed a $500,000 contribution to the Australian Commonwealth Games Team bound for Glasgow 2026.

Set to support the 256-strong green and gold contingent that will compete in just over a weeks’ time, the pledge ensures Australia will arrive at the 2026 Commonwealth Games with the best possible chance of delivering on its aim to top the medal tally.

NSW-based athletes are at the heart of the Australian Team, with 72 of those selected, competing in every sport on the program, calling the State home.

Of these, 43 are scholarship holders at the New South Wales Institute of Sport, including Jessica Hull (athletics), Nicola Olyslagers (athletics), Tim Hodge OAM (Para swimming), Sienna Toohey (swimming), Emma-Sue Greentree (boxing), Josh Katz (judo) and Aimee Fisher (Para athletics).

NSW Minister for Sport Steve Kamper said:

The Minns Labor government is proud to back our athletes as they prepare to represent Australia on the world stage.

“The Commonwealth Games are more than a major international event – they’re a vital stepping stone to Olympic and Paralympic success, giving athletes the opportunity to gain invaluable experience competing against the world’s best.

“This investment will help Australia’s team, including 72 athletes from NSW, perform at their best and continue inspiring the next generation of sporting talent. We wish every member of the team the very best of luck – all of NSW will be cheering you on.

Commonwealth Games Australia (CGA) CEO, Craig Phillips AM, applauded the New South Wales Government for their support of Australian athletes, acknowledging how it will assist in delivering a world-class performance environment.

“The pledge made by the Minns Labor Government today is outstanding and confirms their continued commitment to athletes and sport.” Phillips said.

“To the Minister for Sport, and the team at the Office of Sport, we say thank you.”

“The Australian Team is exclusively funded by the commercial program and investment strategy of Commonwealth Games Australia, with pledges like this ensuring we can deliver the best possible performance environment for athletes that don the green and gold.

“Our aspiration at the Games is to deliver one of life’s best experiences for all Team Members and to top the medal tally – this pledge makes making this aim significantly more likely.”

The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games will take place from 23 July to 2 August 2026.
