Big win for NSWIS netballers over Jaguars in NZ

NSWIS made light work of the Gauteng Jaguars with a 74 – 45 win in their round two Super Club game at the Trafalgar Centre, Nelson on Monday 3 July.

Head Coach Briony Akle, was pleased with the team’s performance in their round two game.

“We tried to work on things we needed to improve and we continued to use rolling subs.

“Our players are building with each game and I’m really happy with today’s outcome.

NSW Institute of Sport midcourter Amy Parmenter was named Player of the Match after her impressive performance in WD and for the first time WA.

“Once Amy got over the shock she was handed the WA bib and we told her to take it and play, she did fantastically.

“She’s so athletic that she can just adjust.

“She took the body clashes and fed the ball beautifully,” commented Akle.

The first quarter was fast-paced with both teams contesting every possession and testing their abilities. NSWIS GK Sarah Klau made an immediate impact on the Jaguar’s goal scorers, with her long reach successfully deflecting the ball numerous times. The Jaguars weren’t going to be easily defeated creating turnovers throughout the midcourt to regain possession, however, by the end of the first quarter NSWIS had taken a 10-goal lead.

Starting the second quarter the intensity visibly picked up with NSWIS playing a three one defensive game. The Jaguars brought on fresh legs in their midcourt who seemed up for the challenge of NSWIS’s young determined team. NSWIS midcourter Amy Parmenter had a stellar quarter providing 13 feeds to NSWIS’s dynamic shooters. Both teams scored 15 goals apiece for the half time score to be 35-23.

The Jaguars never say die attitude was evident in the third quarter as their defence came on extremely strong, unfortunately for them NSWIS’s shooting duo Sophie Garbin and Kristina Brice were on fire with immaculate passing and shooting displayed. NSWIS outscored the Jaguars 19-11 in the third quarter to begin the final quarter 53-35.

With 15 minutes on the clock, the Jaguars continued to contest the ball and challenge NSWIS’s possessions. The youngest NSWIS player, Tayla Fraser, took to the court in C and provided a range of effective passes down the court. NSWIS continued to improve their lead with the final score 74 – 45.

NSWIS will play the ANZ Premiership champions, Southern Steel, next on Wednesday 5 July at 8.30pm NZST (6.30pm EST). This will be broadcast on the Netball New Zealand Facebook page.
