NSWIS athletes will feature prominently on day two of the track and field competition at the Rio Olympics.

Among them will be 1500m star Jenny Blundell who qualified for the semi-finals on her Olympic debut.

Blundell recorded a 4:09:05 to progress to the next round after finishing eighth in the second heat.

She goes into the semi-finals ranked 15th.

It is the latest step in an amazing season which has seen her take huge chunks off her previous personal best times.

Medal prospect Fabrice Lapierre chases gold in the men’s long jump.

With a season full of jumps consistently over eight metres, Lapierre shapes as one of the leading chances in the event.

Victoria Mitchell and Madeline Hills will both compete in the first round of the 3000m Steeplechase, while Anneliese Rubie will be looking to progress in the 400m.

In women’s water polo, the Stingers face a key match-up with tournament hosts Brazil.

NSWIS athletes Bronwen Knox, Hannah Buckling, Holly Lincoln-Smith, Isobel Bishop, Keesja Gofers, Lea Yanitsas and Nicola Zagame will be in action.

At the velodrome, Australia’s women’s team pursuit which features NSWIS rider Ashlee Ankudinoff pedals for gold.

Ankudinoff did not feature in the qualifying round for the Australia’s but the world champion remains in contention to ride in the medal rounds for the Cyclones.
