Boxer Shelley Watts has secured her spot in Rio after being announced on the 2016 Australian Olympic Team.

The reigning Commonwealth Games champion, who took up boxing in 2009 to recover from a knee injury, will make her Olympic debut in Rio and will compete in the women’s 60kg class.

“Relief was prominent emotion I felt after won my semi-final and qualified for Rio,” said the 27-year-old to the Australian Olympic Committee.

“I’ve put in so much work so all I felt was relived.”

“Thinking about the Olympic blazer puts the biggest smile on my face.”

Watts is the 20th NSWIS athlete to be selected on the Olympic team.

The Games begin on 5 August.
