NSWIS athlete Torah Bright (@TorahBright) missed out on the medals overnight, but still secured a top-10 finish to begin her Sochi snowboarding campaign on a positive note.

Contesting the women’s snowboard slopestyle, Bright finished seventh overall after posting a best score of 66.25 points in the final. The 27 year old unfortunately misjudged a landing in both runs of the high speed, big air event, and will now focus on her pet event, the half-pipe, before turning her attention to the snowboard cross in the second week of competition.

Elsewhere at the Games, NSWIS athletes Callum Watson (
@callumwxc) and Lucy Glanvilleboth made their Olympic debuts.

Cross country skier Watson competed in the men’s 30km skiathlon, finishing 60th overall, while 19 year old Glanville marked her debut with an 82nd place finish. Both athletes are contesting several events in their chosen disciplines in Sochi, with Watson next competing in the men’s sprint freestyle event on Tuesday evening, Sydney time.

The Games are well and truly underway, and a number of NSWIS athletes will make their first mark on the Sochi slopes in the next few days.

The NSWIS men’s freestyle moguls trio of Matt GrahamSam Hall and Brodie Summerswill all make their Olympic debut in the early hours of Tuesday morning, Sydney time, while later on Tuesday evening snowboarders Kent Callister (
@kentcallister) and Nathan Johnstone (@Nate_johnstone) will hit the half-pipe for their first taste of Olympic action.
