NSWIS divers Esther Qin and Melissa Wu have kicked off their 2015 FINA Aquatic World Championships in style by each winning bronze on the second day of competition.

Wu kicked off Australia’s medal winning efforts with bronze in the mixed 10m synchronised platform alongside Domonic Bedggood. The duo posted a score of 308.22 points to take to the medal dais, just 1.44 points behind silver medallists Canada.

Immediately following Wu, Qin teamed with Samantha Mills in the women’s 3m synchronised springboard secure bronze. Qin and Mills cruised through the preliminary round in third place and maintained their position to medal with a score of 304.20 points.

The FINA World Championships also saw the Australian women’s water polo team kick off their campaign with an 8-7 win over Greece.

Featuring NSWIS athletes Lea Yanitsas, Hannah Buckling, Holly Lincoln-Smith, Keesja Gofers, Bronte Halligan and Nicola Zagame, the Stingers recovered from a two goal deficit in the second half to snatch the win at the death thanks to a Zagame counter attack.

The Stingers next play South Africa on Tuesday evening, with the men’s team kicking off their campaign tomorning morning against Japan.
