It was a busy week for NSWIS athletes at the Sydney International Rowing Regatta headlined by the Open and Under 23 National Rowing Championships, the World Rowing Cup 1 and the Interstate Regatta.

NSWIS athletes excelled at the Under 23 Nationals events with current Junior World Champions Jessie Allen and Gen Horton repeating their form from the NSW State Championships, to claim the women’s coxless pair by clear water.

Jack Hargreaves was a busy man claiming gold in the men’s Under 23 pair, coxless four and men’s eight to go with his memorable victory for New South Wales in the Interstate King’s Cup event on Sunday.

Sarah Pound and Georgie Gotch also impressed claiming multiple medals as well as gaining valuable experience on the World Cup stage, whilst Georgia Miansarow claimed one gold and three silvers across Under 23, Open and Interstate events.

At the senior level, Nicholas Purnell continued his ascendency into the top echelon of world rowers by claiming silver in the men’s single scull at the nationals, winning his heat of the single at the World Cup as well as saluting with New South Wales in the King’s Cup eight.

Unfortunately his efforts for New South Wales at the Interstate Regatta took its toll, as he was unable to repeat his heat performance in Sunday’s World Cup final.

Elsewhere, James Chapman enjoyed another successful regatta finishing fifth in the men’s pair with new partner Josh Hicks, whilst also starring for New South Wales in the King’s Cup.
