The Australian men’s hockey team, featuring four NSWIS athletes, has won its fifth successive Champions Trophy with a thrilling overtime win against the Netherlands.

A defensive display eventually gave way to the first goal, with the Netherlands striking first in the 18th minute to lead 1-0, before a goal to Australia in the 31st minute saw scores locked at 1-1 into the half-time break.

A tense second half followed with neither team being able to score the decider before the match was sent into extra time.

NSWIS athlete and 2012 Olympian Kieran Govers then proved to be the difference maker in extra-time, slotting the golden goal in the 75th minute to secure Australia’s Champions Trophy triumph for the fifth successive time.
