NSWIS freestyle skier Britt Cox (@BrittyCox) has recorded the best result of her burdgeoning career by placing fifth in the women’s freestyle moguls at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games.

Navigating her way through the second round of qualification, Cox then stormed through the first and second final to be one of six athletes vying for a medal in the third final. The 19 year old continued her dream form to post 19.43 points and secure fifth place, the best result by a female Australian moguls skier in Olympic history.

Cox’s result was complemented by fellow NSWIS athletes Nicole Parks (
@Nicolejadeparks) and Taylah O’Neill (@taylahoneill), who also progressed through the second qualifying round into the final. Parks and O’Neill went on to finish 15th and 16th respectively, an excellent achievement in their debut Olympic finals.

Elsewhere in Sochi, NSWIS biathlete Alex Almoukov (
@Almoukov) recorded a new personal best at the Olympic Games with a 73rd place finish in the gruelling men’s 10km sprint event. The 23 year old went five places better than his previous effort in Vancouver and will next contest the individual 20km event.

One outstanding day leads to another for NSWIS athletes at the Games, with Torah Bright(
@TorahBright) primed for a medal on Sunday evening, Sydney time. Bright will line up in the final of the women’s snowboard slopestyle, before NSWIS cross country skier Callum Watson(@callumwxc) makes his Olympic debut in the men’s 30km skiathlon. 

Monday morning will then see youngster Lucy Glanville make her Olympic debut, with the biathlete competing in the women’s 7.5km sprint event.
