The 2015 UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships concluded over the weekend, with three NSWIS athletes returning home with silverware.

The championships kicked off on the right note with NSWIS athlete Cameron Scott winning silver in the men’s team sprint. The Australian trio of Scott, Conor Rowley and Derek Radzikiewicz qualified fastest for the final but were unable to overcome the Germans, who set a new world record en route to gold.

Scott was also successful in the men’s 1km time trial where he finished with bronze after posting a time of 1:03.417, while also finishing ninth in the men’s scratch.

The women’s events were highlighted by NSWIS athletes Nicola MacDonald and Tori Saunders, with both athletes winning silver in the women’s team pursuit.

Saunders helped the Australian team qualify for the finals in the heats before the Australian quartet, featuring MacDonald, set a new Australian record to take silver behind New Zealand, with the Kiwis setting a new world record.

There was further joy for MacDonald who won bronze in the women’s scratch, with Saunders also finishing eighth in the women’s individual pursuit.
