The Australian Athletics Tour kicked off over the weekend, with three NSWIS athletes winning medals at the opener in Hobart.

Seventeen year old Alexandra Hulley was the standout performer from the opening meet, with the youngster claiming gold in the women’s hammer throw in impressive fashion.

Hulley recorded a new Australian under-20 record with her best throw of 63.65m, eclipsing the previous record by more than 1.5 metres and defeating reigning two-time national champion Lara Nielsen.

Hulley was joined in the winner’s circle by fellow NSWIS athlete Madeline Heiner, who won the women’s 1500m in a time of 4:15.94, while Ben St Lawrence collected bronze in the men’s 5000m with a time of 13:52.51.

The Australian Athletics Tour’s next stop is Newcastle for the Hunter Track Classic on January 31.
