NSWIS cyclist Jack Edwards has stolen the show at the 2013 UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships in Scotland after winning two gold medals.

Edwards’ first gold medal at the championships came on the opening night of competition, with the NSWIS cyclists joining three fellow Australians to triumph in the men’s team pursuit.

With Edwards leading the team, the Australian quartet posted a time of 4:09.364 to secure gold ahead of trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand.

To add to his team gold medal, Edwards then backed up to secure an individual world title in the men’s omnium, a gruelling six discipline event.

Edwards finished second in the flying lap and elimination before taking seventh in the points race to move into a tie for first after three events. He then took honours in the individual pursuit, finished fourth in the scratch and second in the time trial to tally a total of 18 points and the world championship crown, nine clear of his nearest competitor.

Not to be outdone, fellow NSWIS athlete Josie Talbot joined Edwards on the medal dais with a stirring performance in the women’s individual pursuit, claiming bronze.

Talbot clocked a time of 2:28.566 to secure the podium finish, just over half a second from the eventual champion, Australian Lauren Perry.
