Australian men’s water polo coach Elvis Fatovic has named eight NSWIS players among a team of 13 to contest the World League Intercontinental Tournament in Japan from May 10-15.

Just over 12 months ago the Australian men’s team, the Aussie Sharks, produced a breakout performance during the 2015 edition of this same competition to claim their maiden gold medal at a major FINA tournament, defeating 2016 Olympic hosts Brazil in a pressure filled final.

One year on, and the Aussies will defend their title with games against the USA, Brazil, Japan, China and Kazakhstan with the top four ranked teams progressing to the World League Superfinal to be held in Huizhou, China in June.

Representing the NSWIS will be Richie Campbell, Johnno Cotterill, Joel Dennerley, Mitch Emery, Jarrod Gilchrist, Tyler Martin, Nathan Power and Aidan Roach.

While Campbell, Cotterill, Dennerley and Roach have all represented Australia at the Olympics before, the remaining four NSWIS players will hope to do enough in this tournament to press for their first Olympic selection.
