Esther Qin is into the final of the 3m springboard diving event after nailing her final dive in the semis.

The Olympic debutant, under the guidance of her NSWIS coach Chava Sobrino scored an impressive 70.5 with her final dive to qualify for the final

She is ranked 10th with teammate Maddison Keeney also in the mix.

The women’s water polo team locked in second place in their group with a crushing 10-3 victory over Brazil.

It sets up a quarter-final clash with Hungary, the team they have beaten in the bronze medal clash at the past two Olympics.

Against Brazil, the strong NSWIS contingent featured prominently.

Keesja Gofers scored twice for the Stingers, with captain Bronwen Knox also on the scoresheet.

“We got off to a rusty start, probably a bit more nerves and the noise was something we’re not familiar with, which led to a bit of miscommunication in that first quarter,” Knox told the AOC website.

“But after that everyone settled down, we put away our opportunities and really made the most of it and came away with a great win.”

The Sharks fell 10-8 to water polo powerhouse Serbia, setting up a must-win final group game against Greece.

NSWIS athlete Jono Cotterill scored twice, with Aidan Roach, Joe Kayes and Richie Campbell also scoring for Australia.

“Look it was not the outcome we were looking for, the boys played right till the end. But Serbia came home strong and credit to them – but we certainly put up a good fight today,” NSWIS athlete, goalkeeper Joel Dennerley said.

“They are the number one ranked team in the world for a reason, we always have a close match up with them and take the fight up to them.

“Our defence was solid, they have some quality players all across the park and that’s the way it goes.”

The Kookaburras, featuring NSWIS athletes Blake Govers, Matthew Dawson and Simon Orchard face a tough quarter-final clash against The Netherlands.

In a campaign that has seen the Australian team struggle on the scoresheet, they appeared to have found their form at the right time with a 9-nil domination of Brazil.

Dawson scored Australia’s seventh goal from the penalty corner, before Govers hit the last two to cap off the win.
